LEEDS

CLIENT: LEGAL & GENERAL BTR

VALUE:  £55M

The creation of 247 build to rent apartments on this prominent city centre site adjacent to Leeds train station for Legal & General. The scheme comprises of three separate buildings providing a mix of 1, 2 & 3 bed boutique apartments together with a range of amenities including private gym, residents lounge, private dining and communal roof top gardens. Commercial retail units at ground floor level provide the opportunity for bars, restaurants and coffee shops to enliven the public landscaped boulevard that runs between the Lockside and Spicemill buildings.

The main facades are clad in a waterstruck red brick and horizontal stone banding that reflect the local architectural vernacular. Gold metal cladding is utilised at the upper levels to provide a lightness to the top of the buildings whilst providing a contrast to the brick while the base treatment incorporates large areas of double height precast concrete portico and full height glazing. The use of deep brick window reveals and panels of projecting brick headers to the building creates a facade full of depth and contrast between light and shadow.

The internal fit-out design was delivered in close collaboration with Lister + Lister.
