THE GRANARY

LEEDS

CLIENT: PITALIA REAL ESTATE

VALUE:  CONFIDENTIAL

The Granary Building, which was formerly a warehouse for the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Company, was constructed c.1776 to store a variety of goods including cloth & agricultural products and later converted to office use in 1995.

Pitalia Real Estate purchased the building in 2021 with the vision to refurbish the building internally and externally to provide upgraded high quality office accommodation to meet the needs of current office occupiers. At the heart of Leeds’ buzzing South Bank, The Granary has been thoughtfully redeveloped to offer 19,129 sq ft of high-quality office space. The Granary represented a rare opportunity to work on a building of authentic character, and create office space with all the cutting-edge amenities you’d expect from a 21st Century office development.

Urban Box Architects worked in close collaboration with Space Invader to develop the interior design concept for the office accommodation. The refurbishment proposals include the reclad of the existing entrance canopy in a raised seam metal cladding that will provide a contemporary addition that enhances the existing Granary Building appearance. The reflectiveness of the metal cladding set against the soft tones of the existing gritstone of the existing building provides a complementary palette of materials reinforcing the building as a recognised landmark within Leeds city centre.

Design team consisted of Urban Box Architects (Architectural design), Harlex Property (Development Managers), Cummings Group (Project Managers), Ernest Griffiths Consulting Engineers (MEP consultants), Richard Boothroyd & Associates (Cost Consultants), ROC (Structural Engineer), Assembly Studios (Marketing) and Space Invader (Interior Design).
