ThE Dry dock

HULL

CLIENT: WYKELAND GROUP LIMITED

VALUE:  £3.5M

The C4DI (Centre for Digital Innovation) located in the Fruit Market area of Hull provides flexible office space for startup digital businesses. The building was designed to be a strong visual statement utilising bold contemporary materials to create a striking gateway at the mouth of the River Hull. The angular building form takes reference from local landmark building The Deep on the opposite side of the River Hull. The façade is  clad in a reflective metallic outer skin made up of individual copper alloy shingles that gives the building its striking appearance. The diamond shaped metal shingles create a distinctive fish scale pattern that shimmers in the sunlight and reflects the movement of the surrounding water.

The building cantilevers over the existing Grade II Listed Dry Dock to create a direct interaction with the external space and add visual interest. The Dry Dock is brought back into use by the creation of a public terraced amphitheatre space. The lightweight timber & steel structure ‘floats’ within the existing Dry Dock and provide a light touch addition to the Grade II listed structure.
